Alpacas Bring Joy To Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent

Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent recently welcomed some fluffy visitors, as two friendly alpacas paid a special visit to the retirement village, creating joy and an unforgettable experience for residents.

The activity was organised by the village’s activity co-ordinators, in partnership with Knightley Alpaca Trekking. Based in Stafford, Knightley aims to deliver unique animal experiences which place animal welfare at the heart of everything it does.

The event saw alpacas, Teddy and Carlos, spend the day interacting with residents across all areas of the village, ensuring no one missed out on the fun.

For some residents, it was their first ever, up-close encounter with an alpaca. Both Teddy and Carlos quickly captivated the residents, bringing laughter and smiles to many as they made their way through the village. One resident was so excited that she had an alpaca blanket ready on her knee for their arrival.

Reflecting on the experience, one resident shared her delight: “I was so excited to meet the alpacas. I’ve always loved these animals but never thought I’d ever get to meet one up close! Both Teddy and Carlos were so gentle and friendly, it was an amazing experience.”

Another resident, added: “I’ve never seen an alpaca before, let alone touch one! It was such a great experience which many of us thoroughly enjoyed, demonstrated by our continuous smiles and laughter throughout the day!”

Kerstin Taylor, Village Manager at Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent, commented: “Bringing experiences like this to our residents is incredibly valuable. Animal interactions are known to have significant benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, combating loneliness, and boosting mood. The alpacas brought so much laughter and joy to residents, and it was wonderful to see everyone so engaged. We’re always looking for unique ways to create happy memories, and this visit certainly did exactly that.”
