Top Tips for Getting Your Home Sale-Ready

When moving home, getting your home ready for viewings can seem like a daunting prospect. It can be difficult to know where to start when making your space appeal to a varied audience. But never fear! Claire Hatton, Account Director at Vogue Living, has provided these top tips for getting your home sale-ready:

Scent Your Space

It is always a great idea to add an inviting fragrance into your home. You can do that by adding scented candles or perfume diffusers. Use the same smell throughout the property to create your own identity and avoid clashes.

Declutter

Make more room by organising your space and disposing of the unwanted items you might have accumulated over the years. Being in a clutter-free room will help you and the people viewing to relax and create a positive feeling.

Accessorise

Once you have freed up your space, you can add or re-organise your accessories. Adding accessories will always make a room look more welcoming and elegant, so this is a very important process when preparing your home for sale. You have a lot of choice here and you can have fun with it: plants, pots, vases, frames, just don’t use anything personal but think of accessories that would appeal to a larger group of people.

Nurture Flow and Neutrals

A neutral house enables visitors to visualise how they might make it their own. If you have busy wallpaper or bold paint, you might want to consider redecorating and freshening up the walls with soft and inviting shades. In addition, remove family photos or anything overly
personal to help achieve a neutral feel and allow prospective buyers to imagine themselves living in your house.

Sprout New life

When removing personal photos or accessories, your house may stop looking ‘lived in’. So, combat a sterile environment by adding pops of colour or points of interest through flowers and plants. Try placing a vase of fresh cut flowers on the dining or dressing table.

Make an Impression

Don’t forget to dress and properly care for the entrance and hallway of your property, because here is where the visitors will form their first impressions. Provide coat hangers and adequate storage space for your entrance to make it feel more welcoming. If there is room for a large mirror, this helps to provide the 'wow’ factor.

Revise Your Lighting

Used well, lighting can completely transform a space. Make sure every room is adequately illuminated and that the
light works with the mood you are aiming to create. For example, choose cool, soft bulbs for overhead lights to recreate natural light during the day and gentle, warm bulbs for floor lamps and desk lamps for the evening.
