Back to Health Centre
Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent recently launched its Back to Health Centre with an open day, including a talk from a former patient.
Designed for over-55s who are recovering from elective surgery, these personalised stays help people rebuild their strength, confidence and independence, allowing them to return home with renewed vigour.
Visitors to the open day were able to meet the centre’s dedicated healthcare professionals, talk to experts about how the Back to Health Centre can help patients regain confidence and independence after surgery, and meet the Village Manager. There was also the chance to explore the facilities, including the private bedrooms and suites, the wellness spa, salon and treatment rooms, the restaurant and the landscaped gardens, and visitors enjoyed a sparkling lunch.
Visitors were able to meet Eileen Cunningham (66), a former patient of the Back to Health Centre who spent time at the village after a fall leaving her with eight broken ribs and a broken leg. Eileen spoke with great enthusiasm about how the centre helped her recovery from her ordeal and provided her with the support, relaxing environment and friendly encouragement to improve her mobility and confidence before returning home.
Each Back to Health Centre stay includes a personalised plan suited to the individual needs of each patient to allow people to return to full health at the right pace for their circumstances. Patients have access to a dedicated team of skilled healthcare professionals, as well as all the facilities Richmond Villages has to offer, including full access to the wellness spa, gym, hair and beauty salon, restaurant, activities and extensive gardens and woodlands.
Richmond Villages offer a fully inclusive support package which allows for up to ten hours of registered domiciliary care per week, up to three hours of personal training and strength and conditioning exercises as well as access to a Bupa physiotherapist where needed.
The package further includes private en-suite accommodation, nutritious meals in the main restaurant, snacks throughout the day, transport to and from hospital appointments, and one month complimentary access to the Wellness Spa facilities after the stay to continue the recovery. Patients really do have access to everything needed to make a full recovery in a relaxing and supportive environment.
The facilities have already seen great success. Eileen Cunningham says, “What I didn’t know is that my husband, Peter, would also find the experience beneficial! We’ve both made the most of the incredible facilities and it’s been fantastic to have him stay over and be close whilst I’ve been convalescing. It’s almost like we’ve been away on a mini break in a lovely hotel!
“I feel like a totally different person now and surprisingly even more refreshed than I was prior to my accident. 10 out of 10, happier, healthier, more energetic, and more independent. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s helped with my recovery: it’s literally changed my life.”
Kerstin Taylor, Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent Village Manager, adds, “Helping people live a long, happy and healthy life is our number one priority at Richmond. Everything is focused around ensuring our patients get the very best possible support, helping to prepare them for returning back home again as quickly, safely and confidently as possible.
“Where patients need longer or ongoing care, our Villages are also designed to provide other support facilities. We believe passionately that our Villages should look and feel like a home from home and an opportunity to develop new friendships and enjoy new experiences in later life.”
