A Special Friendship at Richmond Villages Nantwich

In our villages, special connections are made every day. One particularly heartwarming friendship between resident Margaret and Domiciliary Care Assistant Jessica recently proved that learning could come from the most unexpected places.

As a Domiciliary Care Assistant at Richmond Villages Nantwich, Jessica spends her days supporting residents to live independently and comfortably in their own apartments. During one of her regular visits with Margaret, a retired schoolteacher, conversation turned to Jessica’s upcoming English B1 exam.

Feeling nervous about the test, Jessica shared her concerns with Margaret, who immediately offered her support.

“You know, I used to be a teacher”, Margaret told her. “You should talk to me more during your visits to practise your speaking. In fact, whenever you need help, just ask and I can teach you!”

Jessica was delighted by the offer and gratefully accepted. During their visits, Margaret helped Jessica build her confidence, patiently correcting her pronunciation, encouraging her spoken English and sharing the skills she developed throughout her teaching career.

For Margaret, it was an opportunity to put her lifelong passion for teaching into practice once again. For Jessica, it was invaluable support from someone who genuinely wanted to see her succeed.

Thanks to Margaret’s guidance, alongside Jessica’s own hard work and determination, Jessica recently received the results of her English B1 exam and achieved an outstanding distinction.

When Jessica shared the news, Margaret was overjoyed.

She praised Jessica’s dedication and told her how proud she was of everything she had achieved.

Reflecting on the experience, Jessica said:

“Maragaret’s encouragement made such a difference to my confidence. I am so grateful for her support and kindness. Passing with a distinction felt even more special because I was able to share that success with her.”

Stories like this capture the spirit of life at Richmond Villages Nantwich. Our communities are places where residents and colleagues build genuine friendships, share knowledge, inspire each other and create lasting memories together.

Maragret’s willingness to help and Jessica’s determination to learn are a wonderful reminder that we never stop teaching, learning or making a positive difference in each other’s lives.
