Police Detection Dogs Make Special Visit to Richmond Villages Northampton
Residents at Richmond Villages Northampton recently enjoyed a fascinating and educational visit from Paul Mitchinson - a former Northamptonshire Police Officer and award-winning dog handler - and his two highly-trained detection dogs, Willow – a Labrador - and George – a Working Cocker Spaniel.
The incredible pair of dogs demonstrated their capabilities to an engaged audience of residents, who were thrilled to witness first-hand how their exceptional sense of smell enables them to carry out important work across the UK.
Willow is an active drugs detection dog who works at festivals and events nationwide, while George is specially trained to detect illegal tobacco.
Residents were captivated by the dogs' skills and loved learning more about the vital role these animals play in law enforcement and community safety. The visit proved to be a highlight of the village's calendar of events this summer, offering both entertainment and education in equal measure.
Recognising the mutual benefits of the experience, Paul will be bringing Willow and George back to the village on a regular basis, as the visits provide valuable socialisation opportunities for the dogs while enriching the lives of residents with unique activities and meaningful connections.
The company places animal welfare as its top priority.
John Akers, Village Manager at Richmond Villages Northampton, commented: "It was wonderful to welcome Paul and his extraordinary detection dogs to our community. Residents were absolutely captivated by Willow and George and the work they do. We can't wait to welcome them back again soon."
