Generations Brought Together in Cheltenham by New Music, Art and Drama Session
Residents and staff came together last week with children from Foxcubs Day Nursery and young people from TwoCan Theatre - an inclusive theatre company which provides creative opportunities to individuals to showcase their talents and develop skills for a bright future. The collaboration demonstrates how connection, play, and imagination transcend generational and ability barriers.
The 10-week collaboration takes place every Tuesday and is based on a shared belief that creativity brings people together. Through music, art, drama and play, participants can share their interests, stories and memories with laughter and conversation helping generations connect.
Hosted at Richmond Villages Cheltenham, the first gathering gave 18 people from different generations the chance to engage in play, creativity and share in expressing themselves through physical and dramatic form. Participants young and old bonded over common interests, helping to build shared memories and strengthen links with the community.
Children, young adults and residents of different ages joined in on the fun, including Richmond Villages residents Kathleen Dunbar, Felicity Thomas and Valerie Clover who took part on the day. Reflecting on the experience, Valerie said: "It was a great morning; I absolutely loved it."
Chyla Young, Creative Wellbeing Lead from TwoCan shared "We are so happy to be working in partnership with these organisations. TwoCan participants have so much creativity and energy to share that it’s infectious. The young children from Foxcubs bring natural joy to the residents and it's through the interactions, the playful moments and spontaneous fun that true connection occurs. It's a really special group to be part of."
Glenda Parsons, Head of Lifestyle and Wellbeing at Richmond Villages Cheltenham, added: “Connecting with our community is so important to us. Moments like this show how much can be gained when different generations spend time together, and we can’t wait to host the weekly gathering over the coming weeks.”
