A local couple have this month marked their 70th wedding anniversary at Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent. 

To mark this milestone anniversary, on the day the activities team from Richmond Villages surprised Wendy and Peter Bryan with a cake, flowers, and prosecco. The couple also received a card from their Majesties, The King and Queen.

Wendy and Peter, who are aged 92, have been living at the village for 10 years, since it opened. They first met at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Farnborough, where Wendy worked and while Peter was serving in the Royal Air Force. They had a small wedding and went on to have two children together, spending time living in Australia during their early years of marriage. The couple celebrated the milestone with family, before marking the day itself at the village.

Recollecting when they first met, Peter’s first impression when he saw Wendy was that she was “a very nice-looking woman”. When asked what has kept their marriage strong, the couple emphasise how important it is to truly know one another well, saying: “We have never gone to bed cross with each other, always backed each other up, and maintained a strong companionship.”

Kerstin Taylor, Village Manager at Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent, commented: "Wendy and Peter have been such valued members of our community since we opened 10 years ago. It has been a pleasure to celebrate this significant milestone with them. Their 70 years together is a testament to their commitment to one another, and we were delighted to mark the occasion with them. It was particularly touching that they received a card from the King and Queen to mark the day."
