Richmond Villages Painswick Recognised as Outstanding Employer

Richmond Villages Painswick has officially been named an “outstanding employer” by Stroud College, having provided a work experience placement for Luc Platts, a 23-year-old student with visual impairment and additional needs.

Luc, a student from Stroud College, began his placement with Richmond Villages Painswick's Activity Team in September 2025 with some understandable nerves. However, the placement allowed him to develop his own personal growth, find a newfound confidence, and saw him integrate into daily life within the village community with the aid of a dedicated support worker supplied by the college.

During his placement, Luc progressed beyond what was originally envisaged, demonstrating dedication and enthusiasm that impressed both staff and residents. What began as a challenge – delivering weekly planners throughout the village – quickly became an achievement, as Luc developed the confidence and spatial awareness to navigate the village with ease.

"When I first started in the role, I was nervous and unsure what would be expected of me," Luc reflected. "Thankfully, I was given a warm welcome and with the support of all staff and residents, my confidence and independence have greatly improved. I have really enjoyed my work experience here and feel very fortunate to have had my placement in such a warm, friendly and safe environment."

His contributions extended further, with Luc playing an active role in designing the Halloween trivia quiz and creating a resident music playlist that drew on memories and preferences from those living at Meadowview.

Cheryl Cox, Village Manager, added: "Luc showed real dedication and grew in confidence throughout his time with us, so we’re delighted he’s had such a positive experience. The recognition from Stroud College reflects our commitment to being an inclusive employer."

As his formal placement comes to an end, Luc's journey with Richmond Villages Painswick is far from over. Having made genuine friendships during his time at the village – including with Rambo the Cavapoo, the resident village pet therapy dog– Luc is now continuing as a volunteer, joining the Activity Team one afternoon a week.

"I have made a lot of friends and I'm very fortunate to still be able to join as a volunteer," Luc said. "Thank you to Richmond Villages in Painswick for giving me the opportunity and for keeping in touch with me."
