A Life Full of Love: Celebrating Mother’s Day with Pauline at Richmond Villages

This Mother’s Day, we’re shining a light on the remarkable women who fill Richmond Villages with warmth and wisdom. One of these women is Pauline, a resident at Richmond Villages Bede, a woman whose life has been defined by love, family, and the joy of being a mother.

Recently, we had the privilege of sitting down with Pauline to talk about her journey as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

A Love Story for the Ages

Pauline met her husband, Terrence, in The Miners Arms in Bedworth. While he was sitting with his feet propped up on a stool, completely blocking the path to the ladies’ toilets, Pauline politely asked him to move. He refused, playfully insisting that he’d only budge if she let him walk her home. Pauline feistily knocked his feet down herself in the end.

And that was that” she laughed.

The two married when Pauline was just 19, in a beautiful ceremony at Bedworth Church. Choosing her wedding dress became a treasured memory in itself. Pauline’s mother had spotted a gown in a local bridal shop and encouraged her to try it on. It was the very first dress Pauline stepped into, and instantly, both mother and daughter knew it was the one. The gown, made in Paris, arrived on the night train, and as pictured made her “feel like a princess.”

Pauline and Terrence went on to share over 60 years of marriage, full of dancing and unwavering love. One thing Pauline and Terrence stood by was that they never went to bed on an argument, a rule they proudly kept throughout their life together.

When speaking about her husband, Pauline’s eyes soften.
I had a wonderful marriage,” she said. “Absolutely wonderful.”

The Joys of Motherhood

Pauline and Terrence have one daughter, Tracy, and she describes being a mother as “fantastic.” Now, as a grandmother and great grandmother, Pauline’s world has blossomed into a lively, loving family of two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, each with their own bright personalities. She beams with pride as she describes their cheekiness, their cleverness, and the way they light up a room.

Her great grandchildren bring a different kind of joy, the playful kind. Pauline laughed as she recalled trying to coax one of the little ones over for a sweet: “She’s not even two yet, but she gives you this look, a proper cheeky face!”
It’s these small, everyday moments that mean everything to her.

Alongside raising her family, Pauline worked as a chef, a role she enjoyed, especially baking fruitcakes for the people she loved. But above all, she dedicated herself to creating a warm, welcoming home, something she takes immense pride in.

I’ve had a wonderful, wonderful life,” she told us. “And a wonderful family.”

Finding Comfort at Richmond Villages Bede

Pauline’s family gently encouraged her to move somewhere supportive and reassuring. That’s how she came to Richmond Villages Bede.

Although the transition was emotional at first, she now describes feeling “content, safe and well cared for.”

The staff are brilliant,” she said. “You can’t ask for anything too much. Everyone is so pleasant and kind.”

Her apartment overlooks a peaceful view of the village grounds, where she enjoys watching the seasons change outside her window.

Looking Forward this Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day, Pauline will be enjoying an afternoon tea with her family at Richmond Villages Bede; a loving celebration for a woman who has spent her life giving so much to the people around her.

When asked what being a mother means to her, her answer was simple:
Oh, I love it. Absolutely love it.”

A Thank You to Mothers Everywhere

Pauline’s story is a reminder of the strength, humour, and love that mothers carry with them through every chapter of life. Whether as daughters, mothers, grandmothers, or great grandmothers, they pass down stories and traditions that shape generations.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Pauline, and every woman who has nurtured, cared, encouraged, and loved in their own extraordinary way.

Happy Mother’s Day from everyone at Richmond Villages.
