Richmond Villages Witney Knit Donations for Ukraine
A group of residents from Richmond Villages Witney have been turning their passion for knitting into a force for good, launching a heartwarming initiative to support the people of Ukraine.
10 residents at Richmond Villages Witney began knitting together three years ago, in a group they call ‘Needles and Pins.’ The group was founded as a creative outlet and sense of camaraderie which encourages social connection and purpose.
Since January, the group has dedicated their time to knitting warm hats, gloves and children’s cardigans, with the intention of donating proceeds to Plymouth Ukraine Medical Aid (PUMA). The group often rotates chosen charities to donate their knitting to.
Martin Crick, Village Manager at Richmond Villages Witney, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our residents for launching this important initiative. It’s inspiring to see the group dedicate their time and talent to such a worthy cause. Aside from the beautiful items they create, these sessions offer the opportunity for our residents to come together and enjoy much-needed social connection.”
Jo Cambrey, Head of Activities at Richmond Villages Witney, added: "The Needles and Pins Group is just one of the many ways in which we support residents’ wellbeing and keep up people’s passion for hobbies and skills throughout retirement."
“It’s been fantastic to see the sense of community and friendship built through these sessions and we are delighted that their efforts have helped Plymouth Ukraine Medical Aid send warm items to Ukraine, with every stitch contributing to a very worthy cause.”
