Redesigning Dementia Care at Richmond Villages Willaston

At Richmond Villages Willaston, we’ve changed dementia care for the better. Inspired by a pioneering model from the Netherlands, our dementia households are designed to help residents maintain independence, dignity and a meaningful sense of everyday life for as long as possible.

Here, care is created with residents in mind. Every space and every routine is shaped around independence and familiar daily living, in an environment that truly feels like home.

A Home, Not a Care Facility

People living with dementia should continue to live a life that feels like their own.

That’s why our 36-place dementia household community looks nothing like a traditional care home. Each household is intimate, beautifully designed and centred around shared, familiar living.

Each household contains six spacious bedrooms, each with their own front door, en-suite bathroom, and French doors opening onto a private patio. They also include a large, cosy living room and dining area, and a warm, welcoming kitchen and utility space where residents can prepare meals, make tea, fold laundry, or simply enjoy the rhythm of everyday life.

This homely setting helps reduce anxiety, encourages routine and sustains the sense of identity that remains so important at every stage of dementia.

How We Support Independence

Our dementia households are vibrant, living communities.

At the heart of them are our Household Assistants, who gently support residents to participate in their own daily lives. That might be:

  • Stirring a bowl while baking
  • Laying the table
  • Watering plants in the greenhouse
  • Choosing ingredients for lunch
  • Folding fresh laundry

These small moments matter.

They preserve confidence, dignity and create a sense of purpose that has a profound impact on wellbeing.

Seamless Support as Needs Change

For families, one of the greatest comforts of Richmond Villages Willaston is knowing that care can continue, even as dementia progresses.

Alongside our households, the village includes a 35-bed Bupa care home specialising in advanced dementia support. With private en-suite bedrooms, welcoming communal areas and access to spa bathrooms and a beautiful sun terrace, residents can transition into higher-level care without the disruption of moving somewhere completely new.

This continuity brings peace of mind. It means residents stay within a community they know, supported by a team who understands them deeply.

We’re proud to offer a community that feels like home and we welcome you to come and see it for yourself.
