Nantwich retirees walk 7 miles for Police Care UK
Richmond Villages Nantwich participated in a walk organised by Police Care UK, titled ‘Walk the Beat’.
The event was held on PTSD Awareness Day (27th June) and promoted public support for veteran police officers who have been forced into early retirement due to PTSD.
Staff and residents of Richmond Villages Nantwich walked an impressive 7 miles, some solo, with support, or in wheelchairs, to show support for the police in the community.
Alan Fairclough, Richmond Villages Nantwich activities coordinator, commented: “Many of our residents and staff are ex police officers or have connections to the police force, so this event was very important for us to participate and show our support.
“It was a really great day, everyone got to spend time together and feel supported. Our local PCSO team attended with a marked police car and held a surgery with residents to discuss any concerns.”
One resident, Virginia, said: “My father worked as an inspector in the Cheshire Police force and I have wonderful memories of the local police house in Nantwich. I didn’t know much about my father’s career, but Alan helped me research his career.
“I discovered he received two bravery commendations, including one for rescuing someone from the River Dee. I feel incredibly proud of him and grateful that Alan helped me find out more about him. I think it’s so important to support our local Police and veterans, as they work so hard to help our community every single day.”
