Margaret Goodwin: Richmond Villages Nantwich

My name is Margaret Goodwin, and I moved to Richmond Villages in December 1998 into a two-bedroom Independent Living Apartment - I’ve been here ever since! Having slipped in my kitchen just before Christmas last year, it was decided I’d come into the care home for a few days. It was then that I began thinking about taking care of myself. Would I manage? Would I be alright? If I slipped again, I could be really hurt. So, I decided the best place for me to stay is in the care home.

I grew up in a place called Walgherton, a rural village close to Nantwich. I had a younger sister and we used to spend our childhood summers picking up acorns to feed to the pigs on the local farm. I just loved being in the countryside and country walks. I still love walking even now.

I went to college and then I became a teacher; I taught the juniors at the village school I attended as a child – the headmistress was still there when I returned! I enjoyed it very much. I loved to hear the progress the children made with reading. I saw the children as my own family.

There’s plenty to do here, morning, afternoon, and night. It’s a very happy village - I haven’t thought about leaving even for a minute! It was a big decision to stay in the care home, but it was the best one for me.

My advice to anyone considering moving here would be ‘don’t leave it too late!’. You don’t have to want for anything here, it is simply perfect.
