Richmond Villages Cheltenham Resident, 91, Takes to the Skies
Mike Heath, a resident of Richmond Villages Cheltenham, proves that age is no barrier to achieving new heights—literally! At 91 years old, Mike is taking flying lessons at Gloucestershire Airporthttps://www.gloucestershireairport.co.uk/. With his 92nd birthday just around the corner in December, Mike has already completed 10 lessons and shows no signs of slowing down.
“I’ve done a lot of amazing things in my life, but I’ve never learnt to fly, so I thought, why not?” Mike said. His weekly lessons with instructor Garry have been a thrilling adventure. Garry shared that Mike is the oldest student he’s ever taught—by 25 years!
Despite the novelty and complexity of flying, Mike remains unfazed. “It is amazing, I have no nerves at all,” he said. “The landing is exciting, and it is an amazing experience.”
Joining Mike on one of his flights was Cheryl Tranter, Deputy Village Manager at Richmond Villages Cheltenham, who described it as “an incredible experience! One of the best things I have ever done.”
Mike’s inspiring journey highlights the vibrant and adventurous spirit of residents at Richmond Villages Cheltenham. The community is proud to support its residents in pursuing their passions and experiencing life to the fullest, no matter their age.
