Richmond Villages Bede Welcomes National Literacy Trust
On Friday 25th Of October, Richmond Villages Bede hosted an enriching storytelling event in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, bringing together residents and children for an intergenerational literacy experience. The event began with a shared storytelling session, where children sat alongside residents to enjoy captivating stories. Everyone got involved, joining in and discussing the stories as a group.
Afterward, the group divided into two smaller sessions: one for building bird boxes and feeders, and another for book selection. The children eagerly showed their chosen books to the residents, fostering shared storytelling moments and bringing stories to life. Whilst the other group beautifully decorated bird boxes, one of the boxes stayed at Richmond Villages Bede and the other went back to the children’s primary school.
“The event was a great opportunity to get children excited about reading.”, states Lisa from the National Literacy Trust.
This partnership provided residents with joyful social interactions and gave the year ones and year twos the unique opportunity to learn from the life experiences of their elders. Richmond Villages Bede is dedicated to promoting community and enriching intergenerational connections through meaningful activities that nurture relationships and inspire young and old alike.
