An Empowering Journey: How Richmond Villages restored Carol’s health and independence to return home.

Following a challenging personal journey marked by post operative delirium and illness, Carol Walker’s experience at Richmond Villages emerged as a transformative chapter. Initially, her independence and mobility had deteriorated because of her health constraints which led to her family seeking care for her at Richmond Villages.

Nick, Carol’s son recalls that he picked Richmond Villages because of the ‘’evidently high level of care” it provided. When Nick had the opportunity to have a look around the Aston-on-Trent village, he witnessed the attention to detail in the design of the village, variety of meal options and aspects of person centred care the team provided to their residents. He explained how this gave him the reassurance that his mother would be properly looked after at this home.

Upon moving to Richmond Villages, the whole team across the village worked hard to put together a tailored care plan for Carol’s rehabilitation. Carol was nurtured by the dedicated support system of staff who she described as “caring” and “sincere”.

Spending a little over a year at the village, Carol experienced a remarkable turnaround in her health. Through the attentive care of Richmond Village’s care, activities, hospitality and spa staff, their proactive liaison with the GP to conduct regular reviews of Carol’s medication and engaging assistance from the mental health team, the team at the Care Home assisted Carol in restoring Carol her mental health, independence and improve her mobility from being able to walk and incurring regular falls to being fully independent and safe in her mobility.

Carol felt that the staff’s daily encouragement for her to improve and be restored back to best herself really helped her progression. She explained how the team always kept her engaged through an extensive list of activities on site, giving her purpose and a feeling of productivity and a motivation to engage. Carol participated in regular activities such as knitting, swimming and art and enjoyed the many hospitality and Spa facilities available on site, socialising with many of the other residents in the village.

When talking about the whole experience, Nick said “We were extremely concerned about mum's recovery, at one point we weren't sure that she was going to make it. It has been more than transformational; it has been a Godsend. We are extremely grateful and extremely thankful that she's made a near full recovery.”

The entire team at Richmond Villages always strive to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents by helping support their individual needs and enrich their personal wellbeing.
