Going green around our villages

Here at Richmond Villages, we like to ensure our residents live comfortably and sustainably.

All our buildings are designed with that in mind with triple-glazed windows, exemplary thermal insulation and combined energy units for both heat and power. It’s not just structurally that Richmond Villages are ecological – there are plenty of practical activities that contribute towards living sustainably too...

Reflection garden

The Earth is for all species, and that’s why Richmond Villages’ new reflection garden is awash with roses, for the bees to come in and utilise the swathes of pollen that the flowers provide. Plenty of Richmond residents are passionate about ecology and sustainability and we ensure that their environmental expectations are catered for. Roses are also greatly beneficial for the environment because they don’t place added strain on the soil, and help to prevent weeds from growing, maintaining the plant life in their gardens. They’re also incredibly healthy, especially when around trees, so Richmond’s countryside villages are perfect for their development.

Food waste

At Richmond Villages, we don’t like food going unused, therefore we encourage leftovers to be given to any animals we have on site. For example, the chickens residing in our Cheltenham village feast on any vegetable scraps that may be left behind from our meals. The fewer food pieces we throw away, the more we can help reduce greenhouse gases by cutting out the landfill stage. Plus, happier chickens lead to a happier village!

Composting

Another ecological activity that is prevalent in our villages is composting. This not only enhances the quality of our garden soil, but contributes towards avoiding unnecessary food waste. We are working towards utilising ground coffee beans produced by our villages to use as a composting tool. By using otherwise wasted food and other organic sources as compost, we contribute towards preventing the rise of methane emissions which are harmful to the environment. All of these initiatives reflect our commitment to sustainability and preservation, and our villages will continue to practice these activities and commit to undertaking more endeavours with eco-friendly policies in mind.
