Dementia care, redesigned

Inspired by a transformational approach to dementia care from the Netherlands, our philosophy is to support people to live as independently as possible for as long as possible, with our households accommodating 36 residents. Our model is quite different from traditional dementia care settings. This can really help to maintain proactive and positive lifestyles. Within Richmond Villages Willaston is also a 35-bed care home. This means that those living with more advanced stages of dementia can progress to a higher level of care.

In 2022 my sisters and I were faced with the devastating decision to place our amazingly independent Mother into nursing care. This followed a stroke which caused right side paralysis. Although diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018, the symptoms of the disease were mild and she was still safe and well enough to live at home. The stroke changed all that and we reluctantly accepted that, despite our best efforts, we had neither the medical experience nor the facilities to keep Mum at home. Placing in Mum in Richmond Willaston was the best decision we could have made. The staff all across the board have been truly wonderful. They are caring, professional and welcoming from the moment you step through the door. Requests or questions are dealt with promptly and we are absolutely secure in the knowledge that Mum is looked after to a standard that we ourselves would set as her daughters. We have at some point had contact with staff in every occupation from reception and maintenance through to laundry, cleaning, kitchen, activities, admin, care staff and of course the nursing staff. All have demonstrated firstly, the most professional conduct possible but also shown not only Mum but myself and my sisters genuine warmth and caring. Thank you all and apologies if we’ve forgotten to mention anyone.
My three piece band play there regularly. It is like a high quality hotel. The residents are so happy and well cared for. You can feel the positive happy atmosphere as soon as you enter the building. Everyone living there is treated with kindness and respect, but never patronised, which is so important. Love playing there. Jackie COUNTERPOINT BAND.
My visit to Richmond Village Willaston was amazing today. Friendly staffs, clean and calm environment, staff’s engagement with residents was amazing.
When I have visited Richmond Willaston I have always been so overwhelmed by the welcoming approach from Amanda on reception and all of the other lovely staff. I am always made to feel so welcome and part of the family even just as a visitor. The home is 5* all round and I love my days when I visit. It is lovely to see how happy all of the residents are each day and how loved they are by all of the staff. Richmond really is a place like home.
My Mum has been at Richmond village for 3 months, she loves it there. The staff are great and there is a full program of activities such as 'knit and natter' to keep residents entertained. There is also regular live music. Mum likes the food and there is a good variety. Family members are made very welcome when visiting and can join in the activities. The home is spotlessly clean and the decor is lovely. I would highly recommend this home
