'Turning Witney Blue'
Retailers in Witney demonstrated their commitment to making the town a Dementia Friendly Community by ‘turning the High Street blue’ throughout Dementia Awareness Week 2016 (15th to 21st May). Richmond Witney launched the initiative to promote their Dementia Friends Information Sessions.
Local businesses were invited to help to promote ‘Dementia Friends’ by creating blue window displays and to enhance them using free promotional packs containing themed balloons and posters provided by Richmond Witney Retirement Village. The response was absolutely fantastic with over 115 local businesses ‘turning blue’ for the week.
Dementia Friends Information Sessions were also running throughout the week at the Corn
Exchange, Richmond Witney Marketing Suite, Deer Park Medical Centre, Como Lounge, Tremain Veterinary Surgery and Nelson Colony Beavers Group (Buttercross Scouts) with almost 100 new Dementia Friends being made in just five days.
Suzi Morgan from Richmond Witney who is a Dementia Champion and ran the sessions said “We are overwhelmed by the response from local retailers. The High Street has looked amazing all week and we’ve been delighted by all the interest and support. Hopefully, this will really boost our efforts to make Witney a Dementia Friendly Community.”
