Richmond Witney are proud to support a new initiative to provide reassurance for vulnerable people in the local area.
A number of shops and businesses in Witney now offer a ‘Safe Place” for vulnerable people such as those with dementia, learning disabilities or mental health needs when they feel lost, worried or threatened while they are out and about in the town.
People who might need a Safe Place carry a card, which they fill in with the details of their chosen contact. They can then show this card in a Safe Place which is identifiable by a distinctive window sticker and the business or shop will get in touch with their chosen contact and keep the vulnerable person safe until they arrive.
The ‘I Need Help’ Safe Place cards for a vulnerable person can be picked up from the following places:
· West Oxfordshire District Council, Town Centre Shop, Welch Way, Witney.
· West Oxfordshire District Council, Elmfield Offices Reception, New Yatt Road, Witney.
· Cottsway Housing, Station Lane, Witney
A list of police approved shops and businesses that are signed up to the scheme can be found online at: www.westoxon.gov.uk/safeplaces along with contact details if you would like to know more about the scheme.
