Ed Vaizey MP to open Showhomes at New Retirement Village in Letcombe Regis, Oxfordshire

27 May 2009

Already, half of the first phase of 34 apartments at Richmond Villages’ new retirement development in Letcombe Regis has been reserved off-plan since the January launch. However, those wanting to see what the properties will look like in reality will be interested to hear that on Saturday 6th June at 11.30am, Ed Vaizey MP for Wantage and Didcot will officially open the show complex, demonstrating the different types of accommodation and lifestyles available within the village.

During the open weekend on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June (10am to 4pm), visitors will be able to view an Independent Living apartment, an Assisted Living apartment, and a Care Bedroom. A computer-generated walk-through and fly-over images will also provide a comprehensive visual impression of what the village will look like when completed later this year.

The £60m Richmond Letcombe Regis development is the only facility of its type in Oxfordshire. The new retirement village will also have a wellness spa with a swimming pool, gym, health and beauty treatment rooms and a hair salon; other facilities include a café, restaurant, shop, IT room and library, craft rooms and a bowling green.

The superb location of this retirement village near Wantage, just 10 miles north of junction 14 on the M4, makes it easily accessible for those living near Newbury, Oxford, Reading, Swindon and West London.

Ed Vaizey MP says: “I am very impressed with the whole concept of Richmond Letcombe Regis. The variety of homes offered combined with excellent services and facilities provide the over 55s with a wonderful place to live. I very much hope the retirement development will become part of the village. New residents will help local village life, and its nature reserve will be a wonderful resource for the whole community.”

The village includes a range of deluxe apartments, which provide Independent Living combined with the reassurance of a secure and sociable community where care and assistance are close at hand if needed. These large apartments - averaging 1,000 sq.ft. in size - have a kitchen, living room and one or two bedrooms, with en-suite to the main bedroom.

The Assisted Living apartments are ideal for those requiring some help. The apartments include a spacious living room, kitchen, one or two bedrooms and an en suite bathroom.

Paddy Brice, Managing Director of Richmond Villages, says: “Assisted Living bridges the gap between Independent Living and full time care. It means residents can enjoy having their own home without the worry of cooking and daily chores. We prepare all meals, which can be taken in a resident’s apartment or the restaurant, there’s a daily maid and a laundry service. Help, as much or as little as is needed, is provided by our own on-site domiciliary care team 24 hours a day. The Assisted Living package also includes all utility bills and full use of the facilities within the village. It’s a great place to live!

“We’ve been providing Assisted Living for more than 10 years and residents tell us they like having the best of both worlds; the independence of having their own front door together with the assistance and peace of mind we can give them.”

At the heart of the retirement village will be a nursing home for those requiring 24 hour nursing, part of which will be dedicated to specialist dementia care.

The sales office is located in a beautifully restored and thatched former gatehouse; this will be converted into a café and shop for residents and the local people of Letcombe, once all the homes are sold.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, nestling beneath the Ridgeway and just a few miles from the ancient White Horse chalk carving, the new village has been designed to compliment the vernacular of the South Oxfordshire/Berkshire border. The buildings are finished in a traditional, warm and welcoming dark brick and flint style, with the whole site enjoying a rural location comprising landscaped gardens, a meadow with nature trail, large lake and a brook. This nature reserve will have disabled access, and is being managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. It will also be open to the public.

Independent Living apartments with one or two bedrooms, each with its own en suite, are priced from £295,000. Assisted Living apartments are priced from £250,000.

The sales office at Richmond Letcombe Regis, South Street, Letcombe Regis, Oxfordshire, OX12 9JY is open from 10am to 4pm daily.
