Stories, news and updates straight from our villages
We all desire to have beautiful glowing skin, but lack of sleep and time in the day, stress and even the food and drink you consume can affect your radiance.
Here, beauty therapists from Richmond Villages' Wellness Spas offer their top tips to achieving a naturally glowing complexion with a luxurious DIY facial and the luxury Temple Spa products used in the Richmond Villages' spa treatment rooms.
Step 1: Cleanse
Donna Bird, based at Richmond Aston-on-Trent, stresses the importance of the very first step:
"First wash away any dirt, sweat, makeup and pollution that has built up on your skin throughout the day. I do this by massaging the skin with a small amount of cleanser in a circular upwards motion, then remove with a damp muslin cloth or flannel and finish with a splash of cold water."
Donna recommends: for an instant refresh, clean and brightening boost to your skin try IN THE BEGINNING. This deep pore and exfoliating cleansing balm is formulated to thoroughly cleanse whilst gently exfoliating the skin.
Step 2: Tone
Applying toner helps to refresh and rejuvenate the skin. Shelly Lutz, spa therapist at Richmond Wood Norton says that the reason for this is that it completes the cleansing process and removes any excess dirt, oil and cleansers, whilst bringing your skin back to its neutral PH level.
She adds: "try applying using a cotton pad and gently wipe over your face and neck. You'll find that your skin feels instantly refreshed and hydrated."
Shelly recommends TONING ESSENCE which uses a Mediterranean blend of ingredients to refine, tone and hydrate your skin.
Step 3: Moisturise
Hydration is key, says Donna, to relieve dullness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. She comments: "Moisturiser aids the skins natural barrier, locks in moisture releasing it into the skin throughout the day and creates an additional barrier to protect the skin against damage and irritation caused by UV and pollution.
"It's important that you find the correct moisturiser to suit your skin type and moisturise day and night for best results, by massaging small amounts onto your face and neck in circular motions."
Donna recommends DOUBLE CREAM, a rich, creamy and intense moisturiser that is comfortable to wear, leaving your skin feeling super soft!
Step 4: Special Attention
Next up are serums, masks and SPF protection.
Shelly recommends: "You may want to use all three, or you may just want to focus on specific areas. However, it's always a good idea to wear SPF, even if you're staying indoors or the weather isn't great.
"Serum is essentially a shot of extremely concentrated nutrients that will amplify your skin health. A little goes a long way with serums so apply small amounts of your chosen serum in circular motions to the areas you'd like to target.
"Masks, much like a serum, are designed to nourish, detoxify and hydrate targeted areas or your whole face. Apply your mask then sit back and relax while the nutrients and antioxidants work their magic.
"Something I can't stress enough is the importance of wearing SPF. Whether you're spending time outdoors or not, it's important to wear SPF. Massage a small amount of SPF over your face and neck and your steps are complete!"
Shelly recommends: Serum - BE STRONG which is packed full of ingredients to settle and soothe.
Mask - THE CONTOURIST is a 20-minute sheet mask infused with Vitamin C and will leave your skin firm, smooth and radiant.
SPF - try LIFE DEFENCE SPF30 which can be applied on top of your moisturiser or used on its own.
