Spend an evening with a frustrating grape!

..

Red, White and…Black

“Pinot Noir is arguably the most charismatic of all grape varieties, and without doubt the hardest to get right. It's responsible for some of the world's best red wines – and some of the worst.”

The Wine Society

Spend an evening in the company of probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grapes in the world. It’s a complex character –youthful flavours include raspberries, strawberries, cherries and violets. With time these evolve into a bouquet often reminiscent of game, liquorice and autumnal undergrowth.

Pinot Noir is capable of producing divinely scented, gorgeously fruity expressions of place but often unwilling or unable to do so. In excessive heat it will ripen too quickly, failing to achieve the bewitching flavour and complexity of which it is capable. In cooler climates, it often fails to ripen at all. The grapes, relatively thin-skinned and tightly bunched together, are prone to a host of vine diseases, not to mention rot.

But it’s not just a red wine grape – ripening at the same time as Chardonnay it’s used in champagne production and you’ll have to opportunity to try the subtleties of Blanc de Noirs.

Join us on a voyage of discovery with expert guidance and delicious canapes to complement this complex character and bring out the best it has to offer (and hopefully avoid the worst…).  We’ll travel the world in an hour or two and find out how this infuriating character has become a lovable rogue and a taste for all seasons.
