Armistice Day at Richmond Nantwich

11th November 2017

Armistice Day at Richmond Nantwich

We are holding a day of both remembrance and celebration for this year's Armistice Day as residents, staff and family join together here at Richmond Nantwich.

The day starts at 10.45am with Volunteer Don Mudd & his wife Margaret leading us in a fantastic "Sing-a-Long" with music from the wars. At 11am we will all respectfully mark the official two minute silence after which representatives from the Royal British Legion together with Paul Ramsey from St Mary's Church Nantwich will join us in a short service of remembrance.

This service is particularly poignant as both residents and staff have personal experience of the wars both past and more recently. Mrs Sheila Humphreys served in the WRENs from 1942 to 1946 and was based in Blackpool whilst staff member Major Keith Mahoney MBE served with the Parachute Regiment in Iraq, Bosnia and Northern Ireland; both will be helping to lay the wreath at the service.

In the afternoon at 2.30pm, Nantwich Young Voices will be here taking us back to the 1940s as we start our celebrations in earnest and to complete the day, Sheena and Alan the singing duo will be bringing us The Blitz Spirit from 6.30pm.

Keeping warm this winter!

19th November 2017

Keeping warm this winter!

The government's advice on getting ready for winter aims to reduce cold-related illness and deaths. Key tips include:

Try to keep your home warm. Keep your main living room at around 18-21°C (65-70°F). If you can’t heat all the rooms you use, heat the living room during the day and the bedroom just before you go to sleep. You can also use a hot-water bottle or electric blanket (but not both at the same time) to keep warm while you're in bed.

Eat well. Food is a vital source of energy, which helps to keep your body warm. Try to make sure that you have hot meals and drinks regularly throughout the day and keep active in the home if you can.

Wrap up warm, inside and out. Layer your clothing to stay warm and wear shoes with a good grip if you need to go outside. If possible, stay inside during a cold period if you have heart or respiratory problems.

Check on older neighbours or relatives to make sure they're safe and well. Make sure they're warm enough, especially at night, and have stocks of food and medicines so they don't need to go out during very cold weather. If you're worried about a relative or an elderly neighbour, contact your local council or ring the Age UK helpline on 0800 00 99 66.

Gardens win prestigous awards at Richmond Nantwich

30th November 2017

Gardens win prestigous awards at Richmond Nantwich

We are delighted to have won both a Gold Award for Nantwich in Bloom and the highest accolade at the North West Britain in Bloom Awards - OUTSTANDING!

Year after year our gardens win these awards and yet we never rest on our laurels (!), we Dig Deep and work hard to make them even better! So another HUGE WELL DONE to Jonathan and Gary Lawton!

We are also judged on how we use our outside space and boy do we use it! From Dog Shows to Theatre Productions, Brass Bands and Fireworks to Summer Fayres, our grounds are here to enjoy!

The next outdoor event will be our fabulous two day Traditional Christmas Market over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd December and whilst the garden may be looking like it is having a well-deserved rest, the decorations and lights will more than make up for this!
