Richmond Painswick celebrate 'Best of British'

29 July 2016

BEST OF BRITISH DAY AT RICHMOND VILLAGE PAINSWICK

Irrespective of any referendum vote, the staff and residents of Richmond Retirement Village in Painswick are set to demonstrate what being British means to them at their Best of British Day and Annual Summer Fayre on Friday 29 July!

Following a delicious lunch, which naturally includes Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, and prior to the Annual Summer Fayre which commences at 3.00pm,  the Village is set to resound to the strains of Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory during a recital for residents and close family by the renowned baritone singer Chris Hall.

There is a great buzz about Richmond Village as staff and residents combine efforts to enjoy this midsummer event that illustrates and demonstrates what ‘Best of British’ means to them. The day will commence with a traditional display of Morris Dancing and later, the resident chef, Oliver Kyte will demonstrate his prowess by competing with other Richmond Villages across the country in their version of the Great British Bake Off. Will Painswick Village deliver the very best traditional Victoria Sandwich in the land? Visitors to the Summer Fayre  which takes place in the afternoon will no doubt have an opinion as it is set to be served up for afternoon tea along with other traditional tea time favourites.

The Best of British Day will be formally opened by Village Manager Bev Ingram who will be honoured to welcome Dame Janet Trotter, Lord Lieutenant of Gloucester. Dame Janet has been to Richmond before and has been invited back by popular demand to talk to the residents about what being British means to her.

Another contribution to the day which will add style and grace to this wonderful setting at Painswick, will be the lovely flower arrangements, made by the residents under the guidance of Katherine Kear who is a gold medal winner at Chelsea.

The Annual Summer Fayre, with a wide range of attractions including ice cream and Punch and Judy in our very own ‘seaside garden’ commences at 3.00pm. A warm welcome is extended to all from 3.00pm and with a red carpet welcome for everyone who comes, the day is set to be the Very Best of British!
