Look out for your neighbour this winter with Richmond Bede Village

4 November 2014

We’d like to remind you to check up on elderly friends, relatives and neighbours who may be affected by the weather over the winter period.

Although the temperatures are currently higher than average, strong winds and heavy rains are expected and there is always the possibility of icy spells over Christmas.

This, combined with fewer daylight hours, can cause problems for elderly or disabled people who will struggle to keep warm and go about their day-to-day business.

It only takes a few minutes to call around to make sure someone is okay. By helping them to keep warm, picking up essentials like food or medicine to prevent them going out unnecessarily, or making sure they can safely get in and out of their home in icy conditions; you could really make a difference.

If the temperature does fall, you can also help neighbours by making sure that drives and pathways leading to their home are kept clear.

Richmond Bede Village are able to offer Retreat breaks with care over the winter months, which helps to prevent social isolation with a range of activities and other events, all under one roof.
