Since 2008, the Bede Village Ladies’ Circle (men allowed too!) has been holding social events and fundraising for local charities. Formed to help members meet socially, enjoy company and make new friendships, the BVLC diary features a variety of speakers, entertainers and charity fund raising events. Their chosen charity for 2014 is Zoe’s Place Hospice, a wonderful local charity that provides palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants.
Last week, the Circle held a Wine and Cheese evening, with entertainment by the Anker Morris Men to help celebrate May Day and the start of summer.
The Anker Morris Men were formed by a group of folk enthusiasts in Nuneaton in 1975 and take their name from the River Anker which runs through Nuneaton, “anker” being an ancient word meaning “meander” – possibly very apt for Morris men!
The Circle’s Chairlady, Irene Hansen, said “it was a marvellous evening. I was amazed at the
agility of some of the more ‘mature’ men... it was very refreshing to see!”
The villagers of Bede Retirement Village also welcome non-residents to their events. For further information about Richmond Bede Village, please call 024 76645544 or visit www.richmond-villages.com/bede
