65th Wedding Anniversary Celebrations at Richmond Nantwich

15th August 2013

65th Wedding Anniversary Celebrations at Richmond Nantwich

There were celebrations recently for a very special couple at Richmond Village Nantwich when Harold and Dorothy Shaw celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

The day started with the delivery of a congratulations card from HRH Queen Elizabeth II and continued with flowers and cards being brought by friends and family. A huge bouquet from all the staff and residents at Richmond Nantwich was presented to them at tea together with a celebration cake.

The happy couple were both born and raised in Rochdale and met as teenagers through their interest in singing. “We were both in a choir” Dorothy recalls, “and that’s how we came to get to know one another”. Their romance continued despite the outbreak of World War II, when Harold was drafted into the Royal Airforce at the age of 19.

He was discharged aged 28, after spending 4 years at a base in India. They married on his return and had two sons David, and Martyn who was named after the church they were married in.

Harold went on to serve in the policeforce and recalls being at a football match one day in the snow and having his hat knocked off by a supporter’s well-aimed shot. “Everyone laughed and cheered” Harold remembers “and I turned round and bowed!”

Hilary Minshull, Care Manager remarked “We were all delighted to be able to share this very special celebration with Harold and Dorothy. They are a lovely couple and we wish them many more happy years together.”

Painswick Stroke Club at Richmond Painswick

20th August 2013

Painswick Stroke Club at Richmond Painswick

Painswick Stroke Association meet in the Auditorium at Richmond Painswick

Many people who’ve been affected by stroke find help and support from others who have had similar experiences. Local stroke support clubs and groups offer invaluable peer and social support. Through regular meetings and a programme of activities, they invite people to come together, share experiences, regain confidence, relearn skills, and try out new things.

Stroke support clubs and groups are usually run by volunteers. They meet in a variety of places but aim to provide parking facilities, be wheelchair accessible and have space for activities. Refreshments are always available. They rely on donations and fundraising to fund their activities.

There are over 500 clubs and groups supporting people affected by stroke across the UK. Most are independent stroke charities with many choosing to affiliate to the Stroke Association. Lots are Stroke Association Voluntary Groups run by our volunteers as part of the Stroke Association’s Life After Stroke model.

Penultimate Tuesday of each month 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Richmond Painswick Auditorium

Richmond Villages becomes part of BUPA

25th August 2013

Richmond Villages becomes part of BUPA

Bupa made a further step into the care village sector by acquiring Richmond Care Villages on Monday 19th August.

Richmond currently owns and operates five care villages in England which are home to over 660 people. The deal also includes three further sites for developing new care villages.

The five villages – in Gloucester, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Cheshire, and Oxfordshire – include independent -living apartments and assisted-living support, along with residential care, all on one site.

Managing director of Bupa Care Services, Andrew Cannon, said:

“This acquisition underlines Bupa’s strategy to offer older people a wider choice and expand the range of services that we provide beyond care homes and further into the community.  Richmond is an excellent company, with great people, and good locations, that will help us to meet these ambitions.

“We all want to retain our independence as we age. But we also want access to high-quality services and facilities, with the reassurance that further support is on hand if we need it, without having to move elsewhere.  Care villages provide this all on one site.”

Under the deal, all existing 600 Richmond staff and management will move to Bupa.

Richmond Care Villages managing director, Paddy Brice, said:

“I am delighted that Richmond is to become part of Bupa – one of the best known and most trusted names in healthcare.  We both share a commitment to providing the highest-quality service, care and support for our residents.

“I believe this move will greatly assist Richmond’s future expansion , allow us all to share expertise, and bring the benefits of Bupa’s global reach to our people.”

Bupa also manages a number of independent -living and assisted-living properties in the UK through its Goldsborough Estates business, as well as owning and operating 22 care villages in New Zealand.

Bupa was advised during the transaction by Addleshaw Goddard LLP, EY, and Colliers International Healthcare.

Wildlife talk and slideshow at Richmond Painswick

30th August 2013

Wildlife talk and slideshow at Richmond Painswick

Join Iain Green, Wildlife Photographer in the Auditorium on Friday 30 August at 3pm for his 2nd fascinating talk and slide show.

As much as he adored wildlife watching abroad, he had a desire to show off the, often overlooked, nature on our doorsteps (not to mention tackling climate change).  A focus closer to home meant more detailed studies than were possible overseas.

His my third book ‘Wild London’ is much more than just rats and pigeons, Wild London showcases the fascinating diversity of wildlife found within the city – from ancient woodlands to the wildlife in10 Downing Street.

For further information on Iain's work, visit his website www.wildwonder.co.uk
