Mad Hatter's Tea Party at Richmond Nantwich

1st March 2012

Mad Hatter's Tea Party at Richmond Nantwich

Having followed the trail of footprints carefully laid, though the looking glass and down the rabbit hole, Richmond Village Resident’s were soon in the presence of the Mad Hatter, who had extended an invitation to join him and other characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland at his tea-party at Richmond Village Nantwich.

Residents were transported into a land of make-believe. Tables had been set and decorated for a tea party; bunting and balloons completed the scene. Vases of colourful flowers ran the length of the table, courtesy of Sainsbury’s.

Alice, the Cheshire Cat and the White Rabbit looked after the guests whilst the white rabbit dashed hither and thither muttering “I’m late, I’m late”.

There was a quiz with backwards answers followed by

delicious refreshments. Glasses of green and red juice were served and later cups of tea, decorated biscuits and cup cakes with toppings of many kinds were enjoyed.

The British Heart Foundation were on hand to give advice on matters on healthy eating and to offer blood pressure checks.

During the tea-party Lesley and David Rowlands of Crewe and Nantwich Cancer Research Committee were also presented with a cheque for £100 from money raised at the Richmond Village Pantomime in January.

Lynne Griffin, Village Manager said “The whole afternoon was really successful with everybody who came thoroughly enjoying themselves. I would like to thank the British Heart Foundation for coming along and offering advice on maintaining a healthy heart which we all found very useful.”

In addition, staff and volunteers from local charity “Scope” manned a book sale which proved to be extremely popular.

Organiser Alison Harding remarked “We were all delighted to be involved with World Book Day. There are not many people who do not enjoy reading a good book at some time, myself included and it was lovely to hear the authors reading from their own published works.”

Richmond Nantwich launches Easter Egg Appeal

For the second year running, Richmond Village Nantwich, together with Cat Radio and the local Sainsburys store in Nantwich, is launching its Chocolate Easter Egg Appeal.

Last year, over 250 eggs were donated to underprivileged and poorly children and it is hoped that this year’s appeal will be even more successful.

The eggs, all of which were given by local people and businesses, were delivered amongst others, to the Children’s Ward at Leighton Hospital and the local Women’s Refuge; organisers are asking anyone who knows of other children’s groups that would benefit to get into contact.

The eggs can be dropped off at collection points in Richmond Village Nantwich on St Josephs Way or at the Cat Radio, Frederick House in Beam Heath Way. Further information can also be obtained by contacting either Nicola or Alison on 01270 629080.

Time for a Cuppa raises funds at Richmond Letcombe Regis

Residents, visitors and staff took part in two events to raise funds for Dementia UK's Time for a Cuppa appeal.  On Tuesday 28th February, afternoon tea was accompanied by some fun exercise for the "grey cells" in the form of quizzes and crosswords. The following afternoon, accordion player Hazel Brunier played a wide variety of well-known tunes and got her appreciative audience singing along as they enjoyed more tea and some delicious cakes.  Over £260 was raised in total.

Money raised from the Time for a Cuppa parties held across the country will help Dementia UK to expand and develop their services to reach more family carers and those affected by dementia.  In theUK it is estimated that 25 million people have a close friend or family member with dementia.

Richmond Nantwich employee to help in Romanian Orphanage

25th March 2012

Richmond Nantwich employee to help in Romanian Orphanage

An employee from Richmond Village Nantwich is attempting to raise a substantial amount of money so that he can travel to a Romanian orphanage in July.

Daniel Redhead, 20, who is also studying at Durham University, has taken on the challenge of raising £1300 over the next few months. This will enable him to join the charity Future Sense Foundation in Transylvania, Romania helping out in the orphanage for a month.

Future Sense is a little known charity that helps people internationally with social, emotional and economic poverty and, together with the University’s Charity Committee DUCK (Durham University Charities), they are organising this trip to help renovate part of the orphanage. Whilst he is out there, Daniel will also be helping teach the children English, whilst also setting up a summer camp that will involve the local children as well.

Daniel has already raised £700 after managing to stay silent for 5 days and will soon be hiking across Hadrian’s Wall, all 80 miles, dressed as a Roman!

Daniel remarked “For me, this expedition is extremely important. In 2010, there were 62,000 orphans and UNICEF believes that this number will increase by 9000 per year. The Romanian government are finding it very hard to support this huge number of children that are in state care and I want to do my bit by raising awareness and getting involved as best I can.

Nicola Tooke, Village Advisor added “We are extremely proud of Daniel, especially when we heard that he managed to stay silent for 5 days! Over the next few weeks we will be holding various fund raising activities in the Village to help Daniel reach his target.”

Anyone wishing to help can go to Daniel’s “Justgiving” page by visiting Http://www.justgiving.com/Daniel-Redhead0 or by contacting Nicola or Alison at Richmond Village Nantwich on 01270 629080.

Richmond Nantwich Easter Egg Appeal Update

25th March 2012

Richmond Nantwich Easter Egg Appeal Update

Easter Eggs are continuing to be donated at both the Cat Radio and Richmond Village Nantwich after their Easter Egg Appeal was launched recently.

Together with Sainsburys Nantwich, the radio station and Retirement Village have already collected well over 100 eggs but are asking for even more. Last year the eggs were donated to under privileged children in the local area however, the businesses are now hoping to include children at The Wingate Centre who will be visiting the centre over the Easter period.

Lynne Griffin, Village Manager remarked “The appeal was such a success last year that we decided we would like to make it an annual event. Every donated egg will be given to a child who may not otherwise receive one and we would ask anyone who can to pop in to Richmond Village Nantwich, St Josephs Way or the Cat Radio at Frederick House to donate an Easter Egg.”

Further information can be obtained from either Alison or Nicola at Richmond Village on 01270 629080.
