Richmond Northampton Celebrate 90th Birthday

Richmond Northampton resident Hugh McKinnon 90th Birthday!

Hugh will be 90 on Saturday 1st October 2011 and to celebrate the day his family have asked to hold a celebration starting at 3pm in the restaurant.

Residents and guests will have a glass of Champagne on arrival followed by a light buffet served with Tea/Coffee and of course a special birthday cake!

Hugh is a retired Scottish man and so his family have organised Scottish dancers and a bag pipe player to entertain everyone for the afternoon!

Football Legends visit Richmond Nantwich

Football legends Frank Blunstone and Jimmy Quinn, together with Jon Gold, Chairman of local club NantwichTown, appeared at Richmond Village Nantwich recently.

Ex England and Chelsea player Frank Blunstone plus Ex Northern Ireland international Jimmy Quinn, who now manages NantwichTown, captivated the audience who had already enjoyed a hot pot supper, as they recounted amusing anecdotes from their prestigous careers over the past years, including working with Tommy Docherty. Jon Gold then went on to give a fascinating potted history of NantwichTown whose original ground had been based at Jackson Avenue, only a very short distance away from the Village itself.

Village Advisor Nicola Tooke remarked " We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening, particularly the hilarious stories that were recounted for our amusement. We are also very grateful to Jon and NantwichTown for inviting our Residents to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere at NantwichTown's new ground whenever a home match is on."

Richmond Village Nantwich presents cheque to Parkinsons UK

Residents and staff at Richmond Village Nantwich were delighted recently to present a cheque for £551.25 to the local branch of Parkinsons UK.

Chairperson of the Crewe branch, Dennis Fricker together with volunteer Jenny Sadler came to a presentation afternoon to collect the money which was raised both at the Village's Summer Fayre and through a balloon race, where three hundred balloons were released on the afternoon of the Fayre with a prize of a family pass to Chester Zoo on offer.

A delighted Mr Fricker remarked “The amount raised was absolutely amazing. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Fayre and met lots of lovely people who all helped to make the event such a wonderful success. The money will go towards providing a specialist nurse to help people affected by Parkinsons."

Stuart Ritchie is a highly accomplished digital designer & art director. He has kindly offered to host some free art sessions for our villagers offering an insight to drawing and painting. 

Starting with a ‘view to drawing’, the first session will begin on Thursday 6th October, starting at approximately 6pm in the Windsor Restaurant. If the evenings are popular, we aim to host sessions every 2 weeks thereafter.

Richmond Letcombe are delighted to be celebrating their first ever Gala Dinner, with all proceeds going to their 2011 nominated charity, Help for Heroes.  This Black Tie event begins with a Champagne and canapé reception followed by a three course meal and coffee.  We have a pianist, and live music, table magician, photographer with dancing after the dinner plus a grand raffle.

Richmond Nantwich celebrates as Hospitality Manager wins Regional Award

 

 

 

Richmond Village Nantwich is celebrating success in The Great North West Care Awards after their Hospitality Manager Debbie Mercandelli scooped The Care Home Nutrition and Hydration Award against stiff competition.

Members of staff attended the lavish awards ceremony, held this year in the Grand Ballroom at Blackpool Tower, in which they were also runners up in The Care Employer of the Year category having won the accolade last year. Village driver Bryan Burchell was also runner up in The Ancillary Worker award.

Debbie, who had already celebrated success last year in The South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Awards as Employee of the Year, will now go on to represent the North West in the National Finals in London.

Lynne Griffin, Village Manager, remarked “We are all absolutely delighted that Debbie and her team’s hard work and effort have been recognised in this way.”

Paddy Brice, Director of Richmond Villages, added “We are all aware how important a healthy and nutritious diet is, especially in a care setting, and this award recognises the dedication and hard work that Debbie and her staff show every single day.”

Another Big Knit at Richmond Letcombe Regis

For the second year in succession, Richmond Letcombe Regis residents and staff have been busy knitting little hats for Innocent Smoothies as part of Age UK's "Big Knit" campaign. On Tuesday 11th October at 3.00pm, Gill Longmuir, Age UK Community Development Worker will be joining us for tea and we shall be presenting her with all the hats knitted. Age UK have teamed up again with Innocent Smoothies and for every "behatted" bottle sold, 25p is donated to Age UK to help make winter warmer for older people.

One of the many new activities commencing during the autumn is a Chess Group, which will meet on a twice monthly basis in the Activities Room.  It has been claimed that playing chess can raise IQ scores, strengthen problem solving skills, enhance memory and foster creative thinking.  Even if these claims can't be proven, chess is also a fun game!

Resident Jenny Tyack has played Handbells for many years and currently conducts a local group, the Ridgeway Ringers.  She is now setting up a new group for fellow residents at Richmond Letcombe Regis, keen to learn a new skill.  The group will meet on a weekly basis preparing some seasonal tunes ready for the Christmas celebrations.

Autumn Fayre at Richmond Painswick

This year's Autumn Fayre is being held on Wednesday 19 October starting at 10am in the Auditorium.  Stalls will include Cosyfeet selling its wide range of comfortable footwear, Nightie Night with its finest quality soft cotton nightdresses, dressing gowns and pyjamas, and Penny will be here with her hand-made greeting cards and a selection of fairtrade wooden gifts.

There will be a refreshments available, a cake stall and a raffle with all proceeds going to our chosen charity of the year, Help for Heroes.

Richmond Painswick's Help for Heroes Charity Dinner

 

Richmond is hosting a Charity Dinner on Wednesday 19 October to help raise money for our chosen charity of the year - Help for Heroes.  Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Knight, former Chair of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, has kindly agreed to join us to deliver an after dinner speech. 

So with delicious food and other surprises planned, this is an event not to be missed.  Pre-dinner drinks will be served from 6pm and dinner will be served at 6.30pm in the Auditorium. 

There will be a seating plan for this event.  Tickets are available from Activities, costing £25 per head and all profits will go to Help for Heroes.

Tuesday 25th October Richmond Northampton will host a special Day At The races theme day.

The day will start with a full continental Breakfast at 9am -11am.

Treasure hunt around the village in the theme of horse racing

Ladies best dressed competition and best hat competition at 12noon.

Lunch will be a Grand Buffet served at 12:30pm – 2pm with Champagneon arrival.

The afternoon will be horse racing and pig racing 2pm -4pm

Afternoon tea to end the day will be served at 4pm in the yellow lounge with a Piano recital.

Happy Retirement Hannah

Staff and residents gathered to wish Village Housekeeper Hannah Barry a long and happy retirement this week. Hannah has decided to hang up her dustpan and brush after nearly twelve years of working at Richmond Nantwich.

Over £500 was collected and given to Hannah who is hoping to take a trip toSwitzerlandvery soon.

We all wish her lots of luck.

Richmond Northampton Sunday Services

Held every Sunday in the Blue lounge at 10:30am.

The service is a non denominational and is open to everyone. The service is run by a Resident Gillian Barker who was a lay Preacher at her local church  runs the service.

Tea /Coffee & Biscuits are provided at the end of the service.

We also hold a monthly Holy Communion with local Vicar Charlie Knobbs every second Wednesday of the month

Trick or Treaters visit residents at Richmond Coventry

One of our younger residents, Louise, 32, at Richmond Coventry is an avid horror fan. Regrettably she suffers with MS.  Due to the severity of her condition, she is not able to go out to enjoy the fun of Halloween. So we thought we’d bring Halloween to her.  Her room has been decorated throughout in Halloween and horror decorations and a group of children will be visiting the care home for’ trick or treating’ on Monday 31st October at 4pm.  The residents have been busy carving pumpkins to add to the delights. We're looking forward to a very spooky afternoon!!

Richmond Nantwich hosts Black Tie Benefit Ball

Richmond Village Nantwich played host to a black tie benefit ball in aid of the ABF The Soldiers Charity on Saturday night.

75 guests enjoyed a night of entertainment at the Village and included the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire David Briggs, local MP Edward Timpson and Deputy Mayor of Nantwich Graham Fenton together with Sales and Development Director of Richmond Villages. Paul Jackson.

A three course dinner was served whilst guests were serenaded by local DJ and Entertainer Chris Radford. Brigadier Rodney Walker, representing the local South Cheshire Branch of the ABF then went on to welcome everyone officially followed by The Lord Lieutenant, President of the South Cheshire Branch who explained that the ABF is facing unprecedented demands for help from the Army family and that £14 million a year will be needed to support this by 2015.

The evening continued with a charity auction with prizes including a signed Crewe Alex shirt, a meal at the Residence in Nantwich, a VIP visit to Nantwich Town Football club and a two hour radio show on Cat Radio. Even Paul Jackson’s handyman services were auctioned and raised £75!

Finally, the evening was rounded off with dancing until midnight to a jazz band.

Co-organiser Alison Harding remarked “We are delighted to have hosted this event on behalf of the ABF and hope that this will be start of a number of events to help raise awareness and funds for this wonderful charity.”

Sales and Development Director Paul Jackson added “RichmondVillagehas been established in Nantwich since 1993 and is all about helping to improve the quality of life in later years.

It was particularly fitting that we hosted this event which has helped raise money to help improve the quality of life for soldiers both now and in later life”.
