The Big Butterfly Count is a nationwide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of our environment. It was launched in 2010 and an impressive 10,000 people took part, counting 210,000 butterflies and day-flying moths across the nation. It is hoped that many more people will join this year's big butterfly count (16th-31st July 2011). For more information, visit the website: www.bigbutterflycount.org
Our Care Home residents will be counting butterflies over a period of 15 minutes. They will then send details of their sightings to the Big Butterfly Count which aims to identify trends in species, to help plan how to protect butterflies from extinction, as well as understand the effect of climate change on wildlife.
