Richmond Northampton Celebrate Alzheimer’s Awareness week

Alzheimer’s awareness week starts on Monday  4th July 2011.

Richmond Northampton are holding the main event for Northampton at the Village on Monday 4th July 2011.  The day starts at 10am with tea/coffee and Danish on arrival.  There will be tours of the village every 30 minutes.  There will also be a raffle in aid of the Alzheimer’s society.  Activities, that are available for everyone to join in, include exercise classes, croquet on the village green, Wii Fit & Crafts. A buffet lunch is available free of charge and afternoon entertainment includes an Elvis impersonator to coincide with Independence day. We have had a lot of interest so far and we are expecting upto 200 people to attend

Poetry evening at Richmond Painswick

Following a very enjoyable evening back in February, we are hosting another poetry evening on Wednesday 6 July at 7pm.  Come and relax whilst listening to the next chapter of 'Words for You' with some famous voices, such as Meryl Streep and Jim Broadbent reciting some very famous poems by Shakespear and Keats to the music of Vivaldi and Mozart.

A group of residents will be travelling to The Watermill Theatre to enjoy The Marriage of Figaro, the inspiration for Mozart's opera.  The production has been described by The British Theatre Guide as "an absolute joy" and the Watermill has a reputation as one of the best regional theatres in the UK.  It is located within a stunning converted mill in beautiful gardens on the bank of the river Lambourn just outside Newbury in West Berkshire.

Richmond Letcombe Regis Residents support local Cricket Team

 

Letcombe Regis has a thriving cricket club and our residents have been made very welcome as spectators supporting the local team.  The club has its own cricket pavilion with regular Sunday afternoon games and on Sunday 10th July at 2.30, Letcombe Regis will be playing neighbouring Wantage.  The club house also has its own bar, making it a perfect way to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon.

It’s that time again… the ‘Villagers v Staff Annual Bowling Challenge’.  Historically, the villagers have won… but that’s only because you have more time to practice!!   

The challenge will take place on Thursday 14th July and will begin at 5.30pm promptly, followed by a BBQ.

Every other week on a Friday, resident Beryl Manton runs a popular card making class for up to 10 participants.  It's chance to make some beautiful hand made cards, have a chat and a laugh with others with refreshments provided. 

The class starts at 9.30am and booking is essential.  A small fee of £3 per session is required for the kits provided.

On Saturday 20th August 2011 Richmond Northampton will hold its first "tempt your taste buds" night which starts at 5pm. Residents and guests are invited to attend the evening at £16.95 per person. 

The menu will be very different to anything we have ever done before as we are hosting a Seychelles night.

Richmond Northampton Take part in the Dragon Boat Race

Richmond Northampton takes part in the Dragon Boat Race.

Twelve Richmond Northampton staff will take part in at least three races. The day will start at 9am until the last race at about 5pm.

The race is in aid of the Northamptonshire & Warwickshire Air Ambulance and will take place on Midsummer Meadow in Northampton.

The race is organised by the Rotary International Club.

THE BIG BALLOON RACE AT RICHMOND NANTWICH'S SUMMER FAYRE

Richmond Nantwich is proud to be hosting a Balloon Race in aid of Parkinsons UK at Richmond's Summer Fayre on Saturday August 6th.
The Fayre, complete with craft stalls, steel band, Punch & Judy show plus many more attractions, is open to eveyone and entrance is free.
The Balloons will be realeased at three thirty on the day when hundreds will float into the breeze and away on their journeys. The one that reaches the furthest point and has its ticket returned within a month will win a famliy pass to Chester Zoo in Cheshire.

We are delighted that Neil Patterson will be joining us for our next Supper Club, where he will be performing a programme of classic Jazz songs and quality contemporary popular songs. 

Neil was trained in dance, drama and musical theatre and has extensive experience across the arts.  He has starred in West End musical theatre and worked in major musicals in some of the UK’s finest theatres.

The Big Butterfly Count

The Big Butterfly Count

The Big Butterfly Count is a nationwide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of our environment. It was launched in 2010 and an impressive 10,000 people took part, counting 210,000 butterflies and day-flying moths across the nation. It is hoped that many more people will join this year's big butterfly count (16th-31st July 2011).  For more information, visit the website: www.bigbutterflycount.org

 

Our Care Home residents will be counting butterflies over a period of 15 minutes.  They will then send details of their sightings to the Big Butterfly Count which aims to identify trends in species, to help plan how to protect butterflies from extinction, as well as understand the effect of climate change on wildlife.

Richmond Letcombe Regis Care Home residents will be able to enjoy a delightful selection of old time music this week as Hazel Brunier joins us for afternoon tea.  Hazel, who lives in Didcot, has been playing for 40 years and enjoys folk music as well as everybody's favourite tunes.  Staff and residents will be positively encouraged to join in!!

Richmond Nantwich reaches Garden Competition Semi-Finals
Richmond Village Nantwich has learnt that it is through to the semi-finals of Barchester in Bloom.
The Village, set in 4.3 acres of stunning gardens and woodlands, has won many awards in the past including being rated as Outstanding by North West in Bloom judges.
Everyone is delighted that the hard work and dedication of all those involved in making the gardens so beautiful has been recognised and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for the judging.

On Thursday 28 July, we will be hosting our second Tempt Your Taste Buds night.  This month the theme is English Summer and the cost is £14.95 per head.  Tables can be booked between 6pm and 7.30pm.  The Cafe will be open to enable you to enjou an apertif or 'cocktail of the night' before your meal if you so wish.

Richmond Letcombe Regis residents visit home of Sir John Betjeman

Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, author, broadcaster and journalist, had a long association with Letcombe Regis and lived here between 1951 and 1972.  Richmond Letcombe Regis residents will be visiting his home, The Mead (which is now privately owned), on Thursday 28th July, to look around the gardens and enjoy afternoon tea.

Wantage Silver Band to play at Richmond Letcombe Regis

On Sunday 31st July 2011 residents will be entertained by Wantage Silver Band whilst indulging in a delicious cream tea - a great way to spend a summer Sunday afternoon! 

The Wantage Silver Band is an amateur brass band which started with just a few instruments in 1972 and now has over 160 playing members and a number of sections including a Championship Band and Concert and Youth Bands.
