RICHMOND PAINSWICK WEEDS OUT COMPETITION TO REACH SEMI-FINALS
Richmond Painswick Retirement Village has been selected as a semi-finalist from more than 115 entries to be the sixth annual Barchester in Bloom gardening competition.
As a green fingered semi-finalist in the garden of the year category of the competition, organised by national care provider Barchester Healthcare, the village is preparing for a visit from the judging panel which is currently touring all the semi-finalists to select the lucky winners.
The judges will be assessing the design and quality of floral designs, the imaginative use of shrubs and trees, as well as the benefits to residents, staff and the local community. Finalists will then attend a prestigious awards ceremony in Birmingham in October where they will meet celebrity gardener Charlie Dimmock and be in with a chance of winning gardening equipment for their care home.
Richmond’s gardener Owen Vaughan said: “We’ve all worked very hard to make our garden a lovely environment for the people who live here and their relatives, and so it’s a great honour to reach the semi-finals. We hope the judges will be blown away by our exceptional gardens.
The categories for this years’ competition include: Best Sensory Garden, Best Hanging Basket/Container Display, Best Floral or Vegetable Display, Best Residents’ Garden or Project and finally the coveted Barchester Healthcare Garden of the Year 2010.
