Dementia Care within our Memory Lane Community
Richmond Villages, part of the Barchester Healthcare Group, who, in recognition of the unique needs of people with a dementia including Alzheimer's disease, have created Memory Lane Communities to set the highest standards in specialist care for those suffering with a dementia and support for their families.
We recognise, support and celebrate each person's individuality and believe this is fundamental to the Memory Lane philosophy.
A warm homely feel
Nothing is more important than creating a place that has the look and feel of home. People with a dementia find it hard to make sense of the world and their surroundings. By introducing 'cues' into the environment it is possible to help people experiencing a dementia to make more sense of where they are. Memory boxes, with small reminders and items such as photographs, are used to great effect to help each person reminisce and share their history. Features such as adapted crockery and tableware, sensory gardens with low risk walkways are there to enable people to engage in life's everyday simple tasks and pleasures.
Our Memory Lane Communities are based on the following values:
- Creating a homelike feel
- Encouraging independence
- Providing specialist care
- Supporting lifeskills and individuality
- Promoting self-esteem
- Enabling freedom of choice
- Providing a comfortable and safe environment where someone can live with their dementia and not just exist

We believe there is no other 'accommodation with care' option like this for those affected by dementia in the UK.
